Hitman & Bounty RP – Allowed With Requirements
Hitman and bounty roleplay adds intrigue, danger, and consequences to the criminal underworld – but it must be done thoughtfully to avoid becoming toxic or immersion-breaking.
When done right, this creates compelling storylines. When done poorly, it becomes a way to avoid real RP and grief other players.
Danger
The server only allows TWO(2) hitmen to be active in the city at any given time. Becoming a hitman requires that you open a roleplay ticket in the Discord and explain your idea for being a hitman. Upon approval you can begin roleplaying as a hitman.
Bounties do not require any special approval.
Core Requirements For ALL Hits & Bounties:
1. Sufficient Roleplay Justification
You cannot put a hit or bounty on someone just because you don't like them or had a minor disagreement.
✅ Valid Reasons:
Betrayal or snitching to authorities
Serious disrespect or threats against you/your organization
Ongoing conflict that has escalated significantly
Business disputes with major consequences
Revenge for serious harm done to you or your crew
Breaking significant agreements or codes
❌ NOT Valid Reasons:
Someone insulted you once
A minor argument or disagreement
You lost a fair fight and want revenge
Personal OOC dislike disguised as IC conflict
Petty grievances with no real weight
The standard: Would a reasonable person in the criminal world actually spend money to have this person killed or captured over this issue?
2. The 24-Hour Public Knowledge Rule
Before anyone can collect a bounty or a hitman can strike, the hit/bounty must be PUBLIC KNOWLEDGE for at least 24 hours.
What This Means:
The target (and the community) must be made aware that there's a price on their head
This can be done through word of mouth, social media posts, in game systems or direct warnings
The information must actually spread – you can't just whisper it to one person and call it "public"
The 24-hour timer starts when it becomes reasonably known in the criminal community
Why this rule exists:
Gives the target time to react, prepare, or negotiate
Creates RP opportunities (people seeking protection, making deals, hiring security)
Prevents cheap, surprise kills with no interaction
Allows the tension and drama to build naturally
The target should know they're being hunted – that's where the best stories come from.
Danger
Once a hit or bounty has been completed it must be made known that the contract has already been executed.
Bounties vs. Hits – Know The Difference
BOUNTY:
Objective: Capture the target alive and deliver them to the person who placed the bounty
Open to anyone: Any player can attempt to collect
Payment: Made upon successful delivery of the living target
RP Outcome: Creates interrogation scenes, negotiations, possible release or execution
Example: "I'm offering $50,000 to anyone who brings me John Doe alive. He has information I need."
Danger
You should only try to collect a bounty if it makes sense for you character. If you are a respectable business owner does it make sense to drop everything and go hunting a bounty?
HIT:
Objective: Kill the target
Exclusive contract: You must find and hire a specific hitman (not open to everyone)
Payment: Negotiated between the person placing the hit and the hitman
RP Outcome: Assassination, potential investigation, blowback, etc.
Example: "I need someone taken care of permanently. Can you handle it?" (Private negotiation with a hitman)
Playing A Hitman – Do It Right
Hitmen can be compelling characters, but they require thoughtful, realistic roleplay.
How To Play A Hitman Properly:
✅ Be secretive and discreet
Operate in the shadows
Build a reputation through word-of-mouth, not advertisements
Use coded language and private meetings
Maintain a cover identity or legitimate business front
✅ Be selective about contracts
Don't accept every hit thrown your way
Have standards (won't kill cops, only takes serious contracts, etc. You decide but you should have some)
Negotiate terms and payment realistically
Consider whether the hit makes sense
✅ Operate professionally
Research your target
Plan the hit carefully
Execute cleanly (once the 24-hour period has passed)
Leave minimal evidence
✅ Have depth beyond "hitman"
This cannot be your entire character concept
Have relationships, hobbies, a cover story
Be part of the broader criminal world (maybe you're in a gang, run a business, etc.)
Show personality beyond just being a killer
❌ What NOT To Do:
Openly advertising "hitman services" in public or on social media
Acting like a cartoon assassin with no subtlety
Making your entire identity "professional killer" with no other traits
Taking every contract with no standards or selectivity
Operating with no concern for consequences or investigation
Special Kill Permissions For Hitmen
Once the 24-hour public knowledge period has passed, a hitman MAY kill their target without direct interaction in that moment.
What this means:
The hitman can ambush, snipe, or eliminate the target without a conversation immediately before the kill
The "RP before violence" requirement is fulfilled by the contract, buildup, and 24-hour warning period
The target should have had time to prepare, hire protection, or negotiate
However:
The hit still needs to make sense (don't kill them in the middle of a police station)
There should still be some RP around it (the planning, the approach, the aftermath)
If possible, brief interaction adds to the scene ("John Doe sends his regards")
This is NOT a license to:
RDM with a flimsy "I was hired" excuse
Skip all RP and just shoot on sight constantly
Ignore the 24-hour rule
Kill with zero buildup or justification
Consequences & Blowback
Being a hitman comes with risks:
✅ Your activities can cause blowback to your organization
If you're in a gang and doing hits, those contracts could bring heat to your crew
Rival gangs may retaliate against your associates
Police investigations could expose your connections
✅ Your reputation follows you
If you're known as a killer, people treat you differently
You may become a target yourself
Law enforcement may investigate you
✅ Failed hits have consequences
If you fail to complete a contract, your reputation suffers
The target now knows you're coming
You may face retaliation
This isn't consequence-free murder – play the character realistically and accept the outcomes.
Preventing Toxic Behavior
These rules exist to prevent hitman/bounty RP from becoming toxic:
❌ Not Allowed:
Using hits as a lazy way to avoid direct conflict RP
Placing bounties on people you have OOC issues with
Constantly having hits out on the same players to harass them
Operating as a hitman with no depth, just grinding kills
Ignoring the 24-hour rule to get cheap kills
✅ Encouraged:
Using hits/bounties as climactic moments in long-term storylines
Creating tension and drama through the 24-hour buildup period
Playing hitmen as complex characters with motivations beyond money
Allowing targets opportunities to negotiate, escape, or turn the tables
The Bottom Line:
Hitman and bounty RP can create incredible stories – shadowy negotiations, tense cat-and-mouse games, dramatic assassinations, and complex criminal politics.
But it requires:
Strong RP justification
24-hour public knowledge period
Realistic, nuanced character work (especially for hitmen)
Respect for the target's ability to react and create counter-RP
Use this RP tool wisely. Make it meaningful, not toxic.
